Strong Community Of Farmers

Sitting together in the bar at sunset,
farmers eat grilled hamburgers and drink beer,
then gaze out windows at fields of gold wheat
while listening to the singer on the stage.
Once every farmer owned their plot of land,
parceled just the right size of rain-moist soil
for each individual to cultivate
enough food for their family to eat well.
Some farmers fail due to droughts or disease,
so richer men with capital invest
in future production of farming work
and gain back profits from sales of the goods.
Then bankers soon take control of the land,
and farmers become their farm laborers,
working hard just to survive year by year
while rich land owners profit from their work.
Land owners live in leisure from great wealth
while laborers work the factories and farms,
accepting what wage the owners will pay
till workers strike and protest for fair wage.
While Marx thought workers of the world would fight
to regain control of productive land
and work together in collective groups
to share profits among all who work hard,
their socialist committees of hard workers
were taken over by bold managers
who acted like capitalist land owners,
living well while the workers still worked hard.
How can we maintain our well-balanced system
where individuals who join companies
can earn rewards of profits for their work
while owners over the means of production
are subject to regulations that rein
excessive greed so they cannot exploit workers,
so they all work together in one group
and thrive as strong community of farmers?
Shaking hands after finishing their meal,
the farmers drive to their separate farms
where they analyze financial operations,
hoping to stay free from huge agrifarms.
