The young girl strolls across the college lawn
that shimmers lush with dew in morning light,
and pauses startled at the pedestal
where the giant statue of polished brass
glorifies some long-dead grand general
who fought to defend the confederacy
during the American Civil War.

Organizing protests against the statue,
the young girl speaks before the angry crowd.
"Why is this statue of that criminal,
who enslaved black people against their will,
still standing in space of this college lawn
as if he were some hero of our land?
I think we should tear from tall pedestal
such statues that glorify criminals,
and erect instead statues of good heroes
who helped free all slaves from chains of their greed.
We are taught that the noble principle
that all live people are created equal
supports foundation of democracy,
so we should honor heroes of liberty,
instead of criminals of slavery.
Tear down this statue of that criminal,
and erect the statues in history hall
of people who support freedom for all."

Then someone throws lasso to noose its head,
and they all together heave on the rope,
tearing the statue of the criminal
who enslaved black people against their will,
so it crumples twisted on college lawn.

The young girl stands above the college lawn
that shimmers lush with glow in gold moonlight,
and leads them singing with united voice
America the Beautiful, as wind
ruffles their hair with spirit of liberty.
