So Democracy Defeats Tyranny

So Democracy Defeats Tyranny

One person elected as President,
based on the majority of our votes
in every state, navigates ship of state
in role that imitates the crowned monarch,
so we choose our king from the populace
who gains all power while the loser gets none.

Two people from opposing parties run
campaign for power by traveling town to town,
presenting plan to run the government
based on the principles of their world view,
then we vote to choose the one we like best,
and the winner takes all power of the state.

So the values of the majority
are enforced by programs the president
executes through laws to maintain new growth
from work of our food-production machine,
but the values of the minority
are ignored till the next election cycle.

What if the one who came in second place
were given limited power to run programs,
assisting the president in their work
so they can counter unlimited power
and thus prevent abuse of tyranny
by opposing yet aiding one in power?

The president would represent the people
who voted for the programs they design,
while the sub-president would represent
the other set of people in the nation,
so both together would balance the process
of progressive growth based on conservation.

We could design this system to work well
based on complex definitions of roles
so each would exercise limited powers
to help each other design the best programs
that benefits everyone in our nation,
but greedy people never follow rules.

Our nation will continue on its path
lurching between opposing groups of people,
but the eagle of America needs
her left wing and her right wing to fly straight,
swooping back and forth to keep its strict path
instead of spiraling out of control.

We control our perpetual revolution
by holding election for president
every four years in strict process of change
to maintain balance between clashing sides
through creative tension of opposition
so Democracy defeats tyranny.
