Sword Of Vidostern Lake

By Vidostern Lake in Tanno, Smaland,
where sunlight glows gold on lush summer land,
the young girl Saga with long golden hair
leaps laughing in the ice-clear Swedish air.

Scrabbling for rocks on Vidostern Lake shore,
Saga throws flat clam shells to make them soar,
like Freya wearing falcon-feather cloak
who bears shining sword by the world-tall oak.

Gazing down in waves of Vidostern Lake,
like Odin watching Runes squirm like a snake,
Saga spies ancient sword rusting in mud,
jagged and crusted with enemy blood.

Lifting the sword from the lake with a cry,
and holding it high to the shining sky,
Saga shouts, "Daddy, I have got a sword,"
then grins like she found some old dragon hoard.

When people around the world hear the tale
about the young girl playing in the lush vale
who drew from the lake the sword that was beaten
by Mjolnir, they call her the Queen of Sweden.

Now the sword resides in museum hall
next to photo of Saga on the wall
who goes on talk shows with bright silver eyes
like Goddess Freya from the glorious skies.
