Judge Of Life And Death

I slip between harsh words of arguments
that tear our country in conflicting groups
to hide outside their fierce ideologies
which blind eyes of people to obvious truth.
The real world I exist in every day
consists of people driving vehicles
between far buildings where they perform tasks
in fluid harmony of mutual trust.
The dream world by which we see the real world
consists of ideologies men designed
to guide interactions with other people
when we exchange money for goods and things.
The money shining in my open hand
gleams with the face of the man who plays god
for he will settle all our arguments
as impartial judge who wants good for all.
The sunlight strips all meaning from my mind,
but when I walk inside the dark courthouse
the judge who rules according to law books
enforces justice with the threat of death.
God is the Judge who decides life or death,
Satan is the Accuser who arrests me,
and Jesus is the Savior who defends me,
for their archetypes define our court system.
Once man walked the land to hunt animals,
and woman gathered plants from fertile fields,
but other people claimed rights to their land,
so they fought and killed each other in war.
The man in hall of stone with metal scepter,
that kills you if he hits you on the head,
sits on throne of truth to adjudicate,
proclaiming law to judge us right or wrong.
Each individual human once lived well,
pursuing their own plans for happiness,
and survived if strong enough to defend
their right to live against hostile attackers.
Now our court system of national laws
enforces standard rules lawmakers write,
composed of judges, lawyers, and police
who play archetype roles of Christian myth.
The most basic principle I respect
declares you are the master of your body
and none shall regulate how you may live
as you wish, as long as you harm not others.
Mortal people play judge of life and death
because we submit to the rule of law,
hoping equal justice is dealt to all
regardless of our color, race, or creed.
Where can I go to escape the world war
when groups fight over what is right or wrong,
for often only the strongest prevail
and impose their version of truth on all.
Through language we design ontology,
using tools of science to measure facts,
then articulate basic laws of truth
that predict process of future events.
I sit on the park bench in warm sunlight
and watch people pursue their happiness
while I paint weird visions of life in verse
to formulate flow of cause and effect.
I am Angelus, messenger of dreams,
son of Gabriel, Mercurius, and Hermes,
come to Earth with Testament for Mankind,
I smile and stare at clouds in empty sky.
