Way Of My Life

When I look back on the way of my life
I see the winding path I could have blazed
to achieve the goal I now value well,
and also how I stumbled off that path
to play this role that seems my natural state.
Now as I look forward on way of life
I laugh because I cannot see so well
what new path I could blaze to achieve my goal,
and thus I wander blindly into mist,
groping through shadows to some new strange state.
Though I envision where I want to be
and what role I want to perform in life
to participate in our national drama,
the way I chase that vision through the maze
of illusions leads me to this weird state.
So here I am, now here, but nowhere near
where I want to be in the maze of games,
for other people play the favored role
I envisioned I would play, thus I roam
lost somewhere in this possible new state.
Though I star in the drama of my life,
no one else should play some supporting role,
for they are the right star of their own play,
so I compose the script I want to play
and rehearse this part of my natural state.
The visions I compose with flashing words
reveal complex world view I generate
which should expand to accommodate truth,
flexible enough to incorporate
new facts discovered through close observation.
Because I wander half-blind through the world,
exploring truth beyond the truth I knew,
I map ontology of complex landscapes
through stories woven from expressive words
to reveal truths I perceive through my dreams.
Every story ever told about people
performing their roles in dramas of power
flow together in one epic of action
to compose complete tale of human life,
so I write stories of history I dream.
Though I am not where I thought I would be
I am where I am through my own assertion
so I perform this persona I designed,
composing epic poem of philosophers,
and sit in my yard to become the sunlight.
When I look back on the way of my life,
and how I blazed new trail of my desire
to create my own fate, I stand amazed
on mountain of visions to see the world
and sing its beauty from my natural state.
