Many Measured Facts

The world view our ancestors designed
falls apart when measured by physical laws
that scientists develop to analyze
true nature of this weird world we perceive.
How can we salvage from ruins of faith
love for beauty of mechanical laws
to admire magic of spiritual force
that glows from machine of functioning atoms?
Because the basic particles of matter
connect in molecules of spinning quarks
based on electrons in each pulsing shell,
people feel our dreaming souls are illusions.
While all chemical functions of our bodies
nourish mental perceptions of our brains
the spiritual glow of our souls is real,
as we are conscious of ourselves alive.
Because we feel so alive in this body
we find it strange that we do not exist
before our mothers generate our bodies,
and feel despair that we will cease at death.
The lie that we can earn an afterlife
if we acknowledge some dead man as God
deceives us with false hope of resurrection
in which we are too eager to believe.
We wish that we could live beyond this life
because we are so conscious of ourselves,
but we must accept that this life will end
and make the best of it while we still dream.
Since we know now Jesus will not return
we can shift attention away from Heaven
and focus on easing the pains of life
to transform our world into paradise.
Find people who are suffering and poor
and give them medicine and food to eat,
helping them establish a better lifestyle
so they may join our global community.
When people are healthy they can work well
to earn wealth rewards from acts of their hands
so they can maintain their safe family home
where they raise children healthy and strong.
Jesus taught us to care for the sick and poor,
to treat others as we want them to treat us,
so rather than hope for fake afterlife
we follow his teaching for this life now.
We can follow Jesus as the great teacher
but not worship him as supernatural God,
for he was a mortal man who lived and died
like us in this transient body of flesh.
They thought our spirit of consciousness lives
for all eternity in realm of light,
and beams down from stars to animate bodies,
but souls are generated by our brains.
That world view fails to accurately describe
real process of chemical interactions
when neurons in thick network of our brains
conjures virtual world that models real world.
The world view we all together design
we assemble from many measured facts
like puzzle that presents coherent whole
from multitude of pieces in one picture.
Jesus was a great teacher, not a god,
and this world now is the heaven we build,
so join with me on journey of our hopes
to build new world view with songs of our souls.
