Ancestral Memories Sonnet

Smoking marijuana helped me remember
how my ancestors evolved billions of years
from one-celled organism to myself,
transforming to angel from singing fish.
Each stage of formal change we undergo
while swimming warm inside maternal womb
preserves each shape which our ancestors lived
while evolving from fish to talking ape.
While dreaming in sweet marijuana haze,
I woke as single cell in sea of light
and lived each change of form through hungry lust,
remembering how we strive to become God.
Ancestral memories of their changing lives
glow bright, recorded in our dreaming brains.
