Glamorous Country Of Love

Glamorous Country Of Love

Embossed with silvery images of wings,
my soul grows in gloom of the theater,
inspired by story of the anti-hero
to explore the glamorous country of love
where children of the windy hills rebel
against their parents in the tower of glass.

Grown old and half-blind as the vampire bat,
I sit in front of my computer screen
that evolved from my television set
to watch long epic history of the world
recorded in movies by camera bards
while grifters fight over who rules the Earth.

Yet I strut down the busy avenue
past construction workers and cafe cooks
to my art studio on the seventh floor
of the abandoned clothing factory
where I splatter paint on large canvases
to sell for thousands in art galleries.

Another jetplane screams across the sky
from Manhattan to London in eight hours,
eastward across the wild Atlantic main
where my ancestors sailed west in wood ships
to escape tyranny of the mad king
whose ghost now haunts streets of America.

When Lady Lazarus rises from the dead
from kiss of Prince Charming in misty woods,
assembled by blind Doctor Frankenstein
as bride for Saint George, grand Slayer of Worms,
she swirls her long red hair as angel wings
and eats my spirit with her honeyed lips.

Pink tulips blossom from her lonely grave
where witches gather every full-moon night
to open books releasing butterflies
which form ghostly shadow of Ariel
when she appears in beams of silver light
to bless our hearts with anguish of true love.

So crowds of people all across the land
gather to cheer when Godiva arrives
on white unicorn of the public will
to drive the dictator from the White House
and reign with justice in the Holy Land,
protecting Rapunzel from lecherous Mars.

Soft cries of children from their rubbled homes
resemble sad song of the nightingale
that echoes in date groves of Palestine
before the second coming of the Lord
who steals fake crowns from dictators and clowns
which he displays in Museum of Faith.
