Feast Of Autumnus

Feast Of Autumnus

When wild west wind rattles leaves on oak trees
Autumnus son of Bacchus dances free
in leather boots and woolly goat-skin chaps
while tooting haunting tunes on reed panpipes.

When Asterope and Electra return
from dancing in the cave where sea waves swirl
Autumns skips toward them near wood fane door
and grabs Electra by her soft round hips.

Holding her tight so she cannot escape,
Autumnus kisses her neck with desire
but Asterope pokes him with sewing needle
that causes him to shriek and skip away.

Drinking fermented wine from goat-skin flask,
Tumnus watches the sea nymphs inside fane
who sew tapestry showing when their parents
Nereus and Doris arrived on white bull.

When Asterope takes bucket to the river
to collect water to boil in the brass cauldron
Autumnus leaps swiftly into the fane
and pushes Electra against the wall.

Clutching his curly hair, she growls in rage
when he thrusts inside her with lusty force,
but she cannot prevent his deep invasion
so she bites his neck, which excites him more.

Just as he climaxes with aching howl
seven carpenters burst into the fane
and clutch him with their strong wood-bending hands
then drag him outside as he writhes in rage.

Binding two poles into the rugged cross,
the carpenters bind his arms and legs tight,
then lift up the cross so he hangs in shock,
and howls in rage as he writhes to break free.

After throwing stones that cut his tough skin,
the carpenters pierce his side with the spear,
then sit in circle in the fane to feast,
drinking wine and mocking the thirsty satyr.

Honing blade sharp on the gray spinning stone,
Proteus cuts long gash in skin of his chest,
then licks blood as Autumnus screams in pain,
and slices off large chunks of meaty thighs.

Each carpenter cuts slices of his flesh
then roasts them sizzling over the bright flames
that glow bright under the full silver moon,
while they squeeze his blood to fill crater cups.

Proteus lifts crater of wine and proclaims,
"This wine is blood of the Earth, so drink well
so the deathless spirits of sun and rain
will fill your bodies with eternal souls."

Proteus lifts fork of roast meat and proclaims,
"This meat is flesh of the Earth, so eat well
so the deathless spirits of wind and soil
will fill our bodies with eternal souls."

Dozens of nymphs and carpenters consume
flesh and blood of Autumnus on the cross,
till nothing is left but his skull and bones
which they place criss-crossed on the altar stone.
