Hypatia Shows Me

I dream the universe inside my eyes
and feel its atoms sparkling in my cells
so harmonious music of countless stars
vibrate the strings in neurons of my brain
when Hypatia shows me how the spheres spin.
I draw the lines of the three basic shapes,
the circle formed from one round curving line,
then the triangle formed from three straight lines,
and the rectangle formed from four straight lines,
when Hypatia shows me geometry.
I conjure idols of ideal forms,
the Tree that generates material trees,
eternal changeless idea of each thing
that designs how monads form whole existence,
when Hypatia shows me force of ideas.
I build rotating model of our Cosmos,
our spiraling Earth with four continents
surrounded by seven spheres, Helios, Selene,
Hermes, Aphrodite, Ares, Zeus, and Kronos,
when Hypatia shows me cosmology.
I weep in horror when Mother of Wisdom,
who taught me all the secrets of our Cosmos,
is dragged from her carriage by howling mob
then beaten and flayed in the church of Jesus,
when Hypatia is murdered by mad Christians.
I teach children math and geometry
to understand the structure of the Cosmos,
how basic shapes form ideas of things
that beam animating souls from the stars,
when Hypatia lives in the truth of our eyes.
