Murder Of Geartha

Murder Of Geartha

Daffodils dance in early morning breeze
that blow through pear trees by the sparkling sea
where Grendel and his sister Geartha laugh
as they gather pears, mushrooms, and bird eggs,
then stand together on the sea-shore knoll
as robins land on open seed-filled hands.

Strolling back to their pool in Robin Wood
with food for their mother to cook their meal,
Geartha and Grendel sing bright melody
about how deer love to frolic in play,
till gang of Geatish warriors from Heorot
surround them with long sharpened spears of ash.

Tall druid wearing bear-fur cape and wreath
of eglantine, who bears oak wizard staff,
steps forward and declares with spell-force voice,
"I am Aeschere, most trusted wise advisor
for Hrothgar who rules this land with just deeds,
and I choose you, Geartha, to be my bride."

"Hrothgar defines my function for his rule
as both his Rune-Knower and Advice-Bearer,
for I know all the mysteries of this world,
and stars that direct fortune of our fate
decree that you, Geartha, with star-gold eyes,
are fit to bear good children of my seed."

Offering crown of gold with bright emerald,
Aeschere smiles with confidence of his power,
but, when Geartha steps back and shakes her head,
he gestures for the warriors to attack
so they wrestle shocked Grendel to the ground
and bind his arms and legs with vine-wound rope.

Struggling in vain to escape lusty grasp,
Geartha cries out to her brother for help,
but Aeschere drags her away to Heorot
where he beats her till she lies still in bed
and weeps with sorrow of lost innocence
as he tries to impregnate her with child.

Searching for her children in Robin Wood,
Gretta finds her fierce son constrained with rope,
so she struggles to unbind his sore limbs,
then growls in rage as he describes the scene
when Aeschere raped Geartha to be his bride,
and took her to his quarters in Heorot.

When the tawny owl hoots in cold moonlight,
Gretta breaks into grand home of Aeschere
to rescue Geartha from his greedy lust,
tightly gripping thick neck of the Rune-Knower
when he attacks to stab her in the heart,
then rips off his head before he can scream.

Bearing wounded Geartha to their pool cave,
Gretta stabs head of Aeschere on tall pole,
then cradles her daughter in loving arms,
"Sweet Geartha, precious daughter of my heart,
your mother failed to protect you from harm,
but I will restore your spirit to life."

As Geartha touches wet cheek of her mother
her spirit dissipates and leaves her cold,
so Grendel and Gretta sob in despair,
then share how she loved to sing with the birds
and play chase with deer in the Robin Wood
as they cover her grave with scented flowers.

  1. Orpheus kneels before grave of Geartha and sings elegy as he remembers her dancing with elegant grace during the midsummer festival at Yggdrasil.
