Black clouds roil over surging ocean waves 
to shroud lush meadows of Elysium 
in gloom soaked with torrents of glowing rain 
that flashes with each shocking lightning strike 
which cracks infinity in shards of light 
that spiral into swirls of gusting wind. 

Each flash of lightning illuminates face 
of lithe Aether who crawls up jagged cliff 
to shelter in large cave of sweltering fog 
where pool of lava bubbles brilliant orange 
and radiates heat that warms ice-brittle bones, 
so he kneels and studies liquid energy. 

Finding long metal rod stuck in cave wall, 
Aether pries it loose, then dips it in stream 
of bubbling lava, twirls it to form globe, 
then lifts it up and sticks it in cold rain 
so icy drops sizzle on sphere of fire, 
transforming it into clear crystal orb. 

Once crystal orb is cool as glacier ice, 
Aether polishes it smooth with leather strips 
till silver glitter of the full moon gleams 
as beams that shift around its surface curve, 
revealing deep inside its solid core 
how the first flash flares forth from the big bang. 

Holding hands with her daughter, agile Tellus, 
Dies climbs mountain trail to find her husband, 
till near cave mouth she finds his frozen corpse 
still upright and clutching in his staff hands 
crystal orb that glitters with spectral light, 
then weeps as she buries him in the cave. 

Bearing the crystal orb in curious hands, 
Tellus walks everywhere in whispering woods 
because it helps her hear spirits of things 
as she perceives their vibrant energies, 
then sits alone in grove of apple trees 
where she watches the universe be born. 

Collecting mushrooms by the River Styx, 
Caelus sees young woman with star-black eyes 
gazing in crystal orb of swirling light, 
so he sits across from her when she smiles, 
and together they dream world history 
as galaxies nurture planets with life. 

Placing crystal Orb of World History 
on broad pedestal in Temple of Truth, 
Caelus welcomes large crowd of worshippers, 
then plays lyre while Tellus, wearing gold crown, 
sings Ode to Evolution of the Earth 
from first flash that flares forth from the big bang.
