Land Where All Live Free

Land Where All Live Free

My heart is not hard as the monument
carved from stone of bones from brave warriors
killed in battles against slavers and fascists,
so it aches with sorrow of brave survivors
who gather to honor those who defend
life through liberty and justice for all.

Reflection of my face in mirror stone
embodies spirit of the human race
programmed to join the native brotherhood
in loyal army of orphans and sons
who follow fearless leader with star eyes
projecting dream of land where all live free.

Names of the dead carved on grand monuments
transform to ravens flocked in sprawling trees
who watch us mourn their deaths in brutal wars
described by Homer in bloody detail
how indifferent spears and bullets tear flesh
and hurl their bodies into nothingness.

Young boy on grassy field of poppies points
to silver airplane gliding among clouds,
piloted well by the archangel Michael
who cannot find heavenly halls of light
where God and Jesus reign on thrones of power
for royal castles crumbled long ago.

Bearing bright sword of patriotic pride,
which he wielded to slay the dragon Fafnir,
Sigurd turns away from rain-worn tombstone
where body of his father rots to mud,
then bends blade into plowshare he can use
to cultivate fields of flourishing wheat.

Faithful attendant with assertive hands,
Sigurd plows soil and sows seeds with respect
to assist his wife Ceres Promitor
when she distributes grain with open hands
to all who offer coin stamped with her face
so everyone feasts on Thanksgiving Day.

Appointed Consus of the grain warehouse,
Lord Sigurd presides as honest loaf-ward
who pays for sacks of grain hard workers bring,
then leads brave warriors from each family
to defend bank of wealth with wheat and coins
against the greedy thieves who steal from farmers.

Gathered to honor veterans of wars
who defend farmers and craftsmen from slavers,
we recite their names and tales of their deeds
to narrate story of our strong republic
founded on principle of liberty
where we do what we will, if we harm none.

  1. Orpheus plays lyre of Mercury at the harvest festival presided over by Sigurd dragon-slayer and his wife Ceres wheat-giver as millions of people honor veterans and celebrate Thanksgiving.
